RALEIGH - Led by a career-high 21 points from sophomore Ashley Williams, the NC State women's basketball team never trailed Sunday afternoon en route to earning a 71-55 win over Wake Forest inside Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack (13-10, 4-6 ACC) shot a season-best 25-49 (.510) from the field in the win, a figure which included a 10-25 mark (.400) from distance. Williams was one of three Wolfpackers to score in double figures, as she was joined by Dominique Wilson (17 points) and Len'Nique Brown-Hoskin (12).

Freshman Chelsea Nelson added four points (2-2 FG) and three rebounds in just 12 minutes of play. She has now scored in all 23 of the Wolfpack's games this season.
Dearica Hamby scored a game-high 23 points for the Demon Deacons (10-15, 1-9 ACC) on 9-15 shooting from the field. She also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. Wake Forest shot 22-51 (.431) from the field throughout the contest and went 4-14 (.286) from distance.
NC State quickly took control of the game in the first half, leaping out to an eight-point lead (22-14) on Williams' third three of the half with 8:41 to play. She would hit her fourth with 7:43 to play to make it 25-17, her fifth with 5:39 remaining to make it 28-19, and then knocked down her sixth to make it 31-24 in favor of the Pack with 3:37 to play in the opening stanza.
"When I made a few, it definitely sparked some confidence," said Williams. "It was a lot of fun."
State tied its largest lead of the first half when Brown-Hoskin hit a jumper with four seconds remaining to give the Pack a 37-28 lead going into the halftime break.
Wake Forest would never come closer than the halftime deficit (nine points) at any point in the second half, as the Pack did a good job of keeping the Demon Deacons at a comfortable distance. State's largest lead of the game (18 points) was achieved on two occasions (61-43 and 71-53).
NC State will take to the road for its next two games, playing at Georgia Tech (Feb. 12) and Boston College (Feb. 15). Tip-off between the Wolfpack and Yellow Jackets is set for 7 p.m. in Atlanta.
