No. 29 Pack Rolls Past Wisconsin 7-0

MADISON, Wis. - The No. 29 NC State men's tennis team bounced back and defeated Wisconsin 7-0 on Saturday, Feb. 15. The Pack improves to 7-3 on the season and 3-0 in away matches.
No. 51 Austin Powell picked up his seventh win of the season while Simon Norenius and No. 121 Robbie Mudge earned their eighth victories of the dual season.
Match Highlights:
NC State jumped out to an early lead, picking up doubles victories at the first and third spots. NC State went with two fresh doubles pairings. At No. 2 Austin Powell and Shoti Meparidze played their first dual match as a team, while Beck Bond and Nick Horton also played as a pair for the first time.
No. 18 Mudge and Ian Dempster defeated No. 48 Josef Dodridge and Jose Maria Martin De Oliva Carranza, 6-2. Today's win marks the seventh win during the dual season and the second against nationally-ranked competition.
Horton and Bond would clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles, while Powell and Meparidze's match would go unfinished at 5-4.
In singles, the Pack got off to quick start, taking the lead in four of the six singles matches.
No. 124 Nick Horton would win in straight sets and pick up the Pack's second point of the day winning 7-5, 6-4. Mudge faced a tough test from his opponent but prevailed after two tie breakers, winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-3)
A strong effort from Wisconsin forced four of the six singles matches into three sets. However Powell clinched the victory with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win on No. 1 singles, while Weigel, Bond and Norenius would also win in three sets.
Up Next:
The Pack will return to action Friday, Feb. 27 for a doubleheader against VCU at 10 a.m., followed by Howard at 3 p.m.
