RALEIGH – The NC State men's basketball team dispatched IUPUI 79-56 on Wednesday night inside PNC Arena. The Wolfpack picked up its second win of the season after outscoring the Jaguars in the paint 32-12. The victory gave the Pack a two-game win streak heading into next week's trip to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Key Stats: Four Wolfpackers tallied double-digit scoring in the contest. Anthony 'Cat' Barber led the way with 19 points, four rebounds and three assists. Abdul-Malik Abu was one rebound short of a double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine boards. Caleb Martin and Maverick Rowan added 15 points and seven rebounds apiece.
Turning Point: Early in the second half, after IUPUI cut the Wolfpack's lead to 38-30, a free throw by Caleb Martin and a 3-pointer from Rowan put the Wolfpack up 12. A three-point play by Lennard Freeman with 16:13 left put the Pack ahead by 13 and stopped any chance of an IUPUI comeback.
Gott Said It: "That was a good win. The most important thing from my perspective is that we have gotten progressively better since we got carved up like a side of fries last Friday. We were better Sunday and then we got better today. I do see improvement; this game was close because we couldn't make a foul shot. We have got to be a lot better at the foul line. I think we have good foul shooters; we spend a lot of time every day shooting foul shots. So we can't step up to the foul line and miss as many foul shots as we had and expect to be a really good team. Defensively we are starting to get better; we are learning when we can switch and when we can't switch. And sometimes that depends on personnel, so we are getting better there. Offensively, we are hopefully going to be a team that improves a lot as the year goes on. It's a step in the right direction, but we've got a long way to go."
Up Next: NC State heads to New York City for the final rounds fo the Legends Classic. The Pack will face Arizona State Monday, Nov. 23 at 9:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
