BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The NC State men's basketball team got 22 points, eight assists and six rebounds from Anthony 'Cat' Barber but the Pack was edged by Arizona State 79-76 Monday night at the Barclays Center.
Inside The Box Score: In addition to a strong outing from Barber, the Pack got double-figure scoring from Maverick Rowan, each of the Martin twins and Abdul-Malik Abu. Barber knocked down 12 of his 14 foul shots to lead the Pack to a 19-for-28 night at the free throw line. Arizona State's Savon Goodman totaled 21 points and 16 rebounds. The Pack allowed the Sun Devils to haul in 18 offensive rebounds and ASU had a 47-35 edge on the boards.
Gott Said It: "In the first half, we shoot 34 percent from the field. In the second half, we executed our offense and shot 65 percent. Our young team needs to learn to execute. We're not there yet. Defensively, we are good at times. But we need to learn to make the right plays at the right times. We gave up two key defensive rebounds where we didn't come out of there with the basketball. So, for us to be a good team, it's about us learning how to be there."
Turning Point: With the game tied at 73 with 1:24 left, Goodman scored a basket and was fouled by Abu on the play. Goodman missed the foul shot, but Arizona State secured the rebound and the ball found its way to Tra Holder, who buried a 3-pointer at the 1:06 mark to give ASU a 78-73 lead.
Up Next: The Pack will play nationally-ranked LSU Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU. LSU lost in Monday's opening game to Marquette.
