Volleyball Drops Battle with No. 18 Florida State

Four different players tally double-digit kills for the Wolfpack
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's volleyball team hung tight, but dropped a battle against No. 18 Florida State, 3-1 (25-18, 33-31, 22-25, 25-20), Sunday afternoon inside Holliday Gym.
The ranked Seminoles improve to 15-4 overall and remain unbeaten in ACC play at 8-0, while the Wolfpack falls to 12-8 and 1-7 in league play.
Bunn's Beat
"We had our chances in the second set, with some swings for set point but we couldn't take advantage," said head coach Bryan Bunn. "We played really well in the third set and then had a bad run in the middle of the fourth set, but we battled back.
"We're right there, but we just have to find a way to finish."
Match Rewind
- Florida State jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the first set, forcing NC State to use a timeout. Out of the break, the Wolfpack went on a 6-3 run to trim the deficit to 12-11.
- A service error by the Seminoles helped the Pack pull within three at 19-16, but FSU won six of the next eight points to win the set, 25-18.
- The second set was an absolute battle as the frame was determined with extra points beyond the usual 25-point threshold. NC State and Florida State traded points down the stretch for 10 consecutive rallies with the Wolfpack having set point five times, but was unable to convert.
- Both teams were very effective offensively in the set, as the Wolfpack hit .417 and the Seminoles hit .426. A couple of timely kills by Florida State proved to be the difference as it won the frame, 33-31.
- NC State used a 6-0 run to gain control of the third set at 15-10 and went on to win the frame, 25-22, behind five kills in the set from sophomore Perry Ramsey.
- The Wolfpack rallied late in the fourth set, but the Seminoles hung on for a 25-22 set-win and claimed the match, 3-1.
Top Performers
- Ramsey led the Wolfpack's offensive attack with 17 kills, while also contributing 13 digs to tally her second consecutive double-double performance.
- Freshman Blayke Hranicka had 16 kills and a .419 attacking percentage. Sophomores Kaitlyn Kearney and Julia Brown also reached double-digit kills with 15 and 13, respectively.
- At the setter position, junior Maggie Speaks handed out a career-best 58 assists. Classmate Rachel Eppley also had a career day with a personal best 23 digs.

NC State will return to action Friday, Oct. 23, when it travels to Clemson, S.C., to take on the Clemson Tigers. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Jervey Gym.
