Wolfpack Soars over Lady Eagles, 81-61

RALEIGH - Led by a nearly historic effort from the free throw line which included 30 made free throws on 35 attempts, the NC State women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season Sunday afternoon with an 81-61 victory over the Coppin State Eagles inside Reynolds Coliseum.
Sophomore Miah Spencer led the Pack with a career-high 20 points on 5-10 shooting as well as a career-high perfect success rate from the free-throw line (9-9). Three more Wolfpackers scored in double digits, as Carlee Schuhmacher (19 points), Dominique Wilson (17), and Krystal Barrett (11) also had strong offensive showings.
Scuhmacher recorded the team's first double-double of the season, posting 11 rebounds in addition to her 19 points.
As a team, NC State (2-0) shot 22-66 (33.3 percent), while the Eagles (0-1) shot 23-57 (40.4 percent). The Wolfpack recorded 15 steals in the contest while forcing 22 turnovers.

The first five minutes of the first half featured a back-and-forth battle between both squads with three ties and five lead changes. Coppin State managed to go on an 8-0 run though to take its largest lead of the game (19-10) at the 13:27 mark.
The turning point of the game for NC State came when it went on an 11-0 run to hold a 26-23 advantage over the Eagles with 4:29 to go in the first half. The Wolfpack managed to score another 11 points to take a 37-33 lead going into the locker room.
State opened up the second half in strong offensive fashion with a quick 10-4 run. The Wolfpack continued to dominate for most of the final 20 minutes, extending its lead as far as 64-43 (21 points) when Spencer sank two free throws at the 8:58 mark.
NC State will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Charlotte. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
