Williams, Taylor Win Discus Titles at Duke Invitational

Florida Relays Results
RALEIGH, N.C. – Redshirt junior Nathaniel Williams broke the Duke Invitational record en route to a first-place finish in the men’s discus, as the NC State track & field team concluded competition in Durham, N.C., and the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., Saturday afternoon.
Williams, a second-team All-America selection in the men’s discus last season, recorded a season-best 185’ 9.00” (56.63m) heave in Saturday’s event to take top honors, while topping the previous record of 56.58m set by Ohio University’s Tom Smith in 1996.
Redshirt sophomore Tremanisha Taylor had a strong showing in a pair of women’s throwing events, taking first place in the women’s discus with a 169’ 2.00” (51.56m) measurement, before notching a second-place showing in the women’s shot put with a 51’ 8.25” (15.75m) toss.
Redshirt freshman SeQuoia Watkins provided the Wolfpack with a second-place finish in the women’s discus with a career-best 166’ 11.00” (50.88m) throw.
At the Florida Relays, senior Kris Kornegay-Gober placed third in the men’s high jump after a 7’ 1.00” (2.16m) leap over the horizontal bar, while senior Karimah Shepherd recorded an eighth-place finish in the women’s triple jump with a 40’ 11.75” (12.49m) performance.
The Wolfpack will next compete at the Joe Hilton Invitational at the University of North Carolina next Saturday, April 13.
