
Cozzarelli 2nd in 10,000 meters at ACC Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Four different NC State men and three different women scored for the Wolfpack on Thursday's first day of action at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Junior All-American Andie Cozzarelli of Apex, N.C., was second in the women's 10,000 meters to earn All-ACC honors for the second year in a row in that event. Cozzarelli, who was third in last year's race, finished just behind Virginia senior Catherine White with a time of 33:53.65.
Freshman Joanna Thompson of Knoxville, Tenn., finished fourth to earn points for the team. At the end of the first day of competition, the Wolfpack women are in third place with 15 points.
Senior Lawanda Henry of Dunn, N.C., also scored for the Wolfpack women by finishing seventh in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 174-feet, 9-inches.
For the Wolfpack men, junior Patrick Campbell of Mooresville, N.C., was fifth in the 10,000 meters and sophomore Nathaniel Williams of Newport, N.C., was fifth in the men's hammer throw to score four points apiece for the Wolfpack.
Senior Adam Henken of Carpathin, Va., was just behind Campbell in sixth place to also score points for the Pack, which is in fifth place with 13 points after the first day of competition at Virginia's newly renovated Lannigan Field.
Redshirt freshman Jule Rich also scored by finishing seventh in the men's hammer throw. Junior Grant Pearce finished ninth in the event.
Williams had a career-best mark of 181-feet, 1-inch, four feet better than his previous best mark.

Friday's track events begin at 4 p.m., and include the preliminary rounds of the 1,500 meters, 110-meter hurdles, 400 meters, 100 meters, 800 meters, 400-meter hurdles and 200 meters, followed by the steeplechase finals.
In field events, the women's pole vault, long jump, and shot put will begin at 3 p.m., with men's shot put, pole vault, long jump, and the women's javelin at 6 p.m.
