RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State softball (26-22, 7-12 ACC) dropped the final matchup in its three-game series with Virginia (22-29, 5-14 ACC) today by a score of 1-0 at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium.

Toni Ann Williford, Bridget Desbois and Alyssa Allbritten each collected one hit for the Wolfpack.

Kayla Cox threw another impressive game for the Wolfpack in the circle, surrendering only one run off of five hits, striking out 10 Virginia hitters in the complete game effort.

The Wolfpack notched a hit in the second and third innings, but in both frames, the squad was unable to push a run across.

Virginia got on the board in the top of the sixth inning, taking a 1-0 lead thanks to three base hits in the frame.

Desbois smashed a double in the bottom half of the sixth, and the next batter, Bethaney Wells was hit by a pitch to move Samantha Melton, pinch running for Desbois, into scoring position. The next two Wolfpack hitters, though, were unable to drive the run in, and the score remained 1-0 in favor of Virginia after six frames of play.

In the seventh inning, Chelsea Tate reached on a Virginia error to lead off the frame. The next batter, Alicia Abbott, narrowly missed knocking a walk-off homerun, but the ball was caught deep on the warning track by the Cavaliers' centerfielder. Senior Alyssa Ishibashi then capitalized on another UVa miscue to reach base and move Tate into scoring position. The next batter, Williford, pushed Tate to third on a fielders choice. Landon Warren then stepped to the plate and crushed a liner to Virginia's second baseman, who narrowly made the play to seal the Cavalier victory.
