COLLEGE STATION, Texas - NC State sophomore Ryan Hill earned second-team All-America honors Saturday night by finishing ninth in the 3,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
In a slow-paced race, Hill finished with a time of 8:06.17, well off his school-record time of 7:50.78, which he ran earlier this season at the Husky Classic in Seattle.
Hill, a three-time All-America selection in track and cross country, entered the final lap in second place, but the field moved forward following the kick of winner Elliott Heath of Stanford. The top eight finishers earned first-team All-America honors, while Hill and the other runners who finished 9-16 earned second-team All-American honors.
"He had to make two or three different moves to get into position," said NC State head track coach Rollie Geiger. "It was a very tactical race. He had to keep working to stay outside."
NC State teammate T.J. Graham, who finished 11th in the 60-meter dash on Friday, also earned second-team All-America honors at the national championship meet.
