
Henry Bounces Back With 2 Wins at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Junior Lawanda Henry bounced back from her worst performance of the season to win both the shot put and the weight throw Saturday afternoon in the UNC-Dick Taylor Invitational.
Henry won the shot put with a distance of 49-feet, 7 inches, and followed up with a distance of 60-feet, 9 ½ inches in the 20-pound weight throw. She now has a total of seven wins in those two events in her six meets this season.
Teammates Jessica Sanders and Brittany Hampton were third and fifth, respectively, in the weight throw.
The Wolfpack's Grant Pearce won the men's shot put at 57-feet, 1 ½ inches in the one-day event at the Eddie Smith Field House on the UNC campus. Freshman Nathaniel Williams was fourth.
Junior Travis Weston won the Wolfpack's fourth event, taking the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet, 4 ¼ inches.
Sophomore Daniel Fretz was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.66 seconds. Sophomore Shawn Murray was second in the 400 meters at 50.71 seconds.
For the Wolfpack women, junior Amira Chowyuk was third in the 500-meters in a time of 1:40.55, while Ryanna Henderson was second in the 800 meters at 2:16.96. Erika Alpeter was third in the mile at 5:05.13, followed by Halsey Merritt at seventh and Leah Vaughn at eighth.
