2009-2010 NC State Cheerleading
1/1/2010 12:00:00 AM | Cheerleading
The NC State's Cheerleading program has a Large Coed team and this year we have added a Small Coed team. Small Coed performs some traditional coed stunts but will also have multi base stunt groups. Both teams are fully funded and supported by the athletic department and members of each team are classified as Student Athletes.
Each squad has 24 - 30 cheerleaders, but teams do vary in size from year to year. Both teams cheer home football and 12 cheerleaders are selected as a combination from both teams will cheer away football games.
Large Coed cheers men's basketball and Small Coed cheers women's basketball. Both teams cheer together at gymnastics meets and occasional volleyball and wrestling matches. For basketball we cheer only home games until the teams play in the ACC and NCAA tournaments.
NC State competed as a Division 1A Coed team at UCA Nationals until switching over to NCA College Nationals in 2001. While competing at UCA Nationals NC State won 3 Nationals Championships under Cathy Buckey (1986, 1990 and 1991). In its 1st year at NCA Nationals, NC State was named Grand National Champion under Lisa James in 2001. Both teams competed, Large Coed placed 4th and Small Coed placed 8th!!!
We have two tryouts one in the Spring (end of April/early May) and one in the Fall (late August/early September). Incoming Freshmen are able to tryout at this tryout prior to graduating. I encourage you to tryout in at the Spring tryout if you are interested in trying out. If you make the team in the Spring, you will have the opportunity to practice with the team over the summer and have the opportunity to be selected to attend one of NCA's summer.
If you are interested in trying out please complete the "Recruiting Info" tab listed on the right hand side of our gopack.com/cheerleading website. This form will collect some information that will help us stay in touch with you this season.
If you have a video of you cheering (stunting, tumbling, etc.) send me the link at harold_trammel@ncsu.edu or you can send a DVD to:
