No. 22 Jackets Take Suspended Game from Softball

ATLANTA, Ga. A Kristen Adkins three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth lifted No. 22 Georgia Tech over NC State, 4-1, on Saturday, April 11 in the conclusion of a game that began the previous night but was suspended due to tornado warning.
The loss sends the Pack to 20-18 (3-8 ACC), while the Yellow Jackets move to 30-11 (8-3 ACC).
Allison Presnell and Lauren Peters both had two hits for the Wolfpack offense.
Lindsay Campana (10-8) took the loss, fanning 10 and giving up six hits. Adkins (16-6) got the win, tossing the final two frames for GT after Tiffany Johnson started in the circle.
Georgia Tech jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Whitney Haller single to left in the bottom of the first. Jen Yee singled up the middle to start the inning, later coming around on Haller’s base knock.
Presnell touched Johnson for her seventh home run of the season, a solo shot to center, in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 1-all.
A tornado warning began at 8:14 p.m. on Friday night, suspending the game as the bottom of the fifth drew to a close. Play resumed on Saturday at 11:53 a.m.
Adkins put the Yellow Jackets back on top at 4-1 with a three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth. Kelsi Weseman drew a leadoff walk and Johnson doubled to second before Adkins drove everyone home.
Presnell and Peters both singled in the top of the seventh, but the Pack wasn’t able to capitalize.
NC State and Georgia Tech will wrap up the series with a third and final game at 1 p.m. this afternoon.
