No. 22 GT Completes Sweep of Softball

ATLANTA, Ga. NC State fell to No. 22 Georgia Tech, 5-0, in the third and final game of an ACC series at Mewborn Field on Saturday, April 11. The loss sends the Pack to 20-19 (3-9 ACC), while the Yellow Jackets jump to 31-11 (9-3 ACC).
Lindsay Campana (10-9) suffered the loss, lasting just two thirds of an inning. Mendy McKenzie tossed the final 5 1/3 frames, allowing just two hits and one earned run. Kristen Adkins (17-6) got the victory.
Georgia Tech grabbed an immediate lead with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first. Blair Shimandle reached first on a fielding error at first, then moved to third on a Kelsi Weseman single to center. Shimandle then scored on a Whitney Haller double down the left field line, but Lauren Peters gunned down Weseman at the plate. Another double, this time courtesy of Tiffany Johnson, brought Haller in.
Jen Yee made it 3-0 Yellow Jackets with an RBI double in the bottom of the second.
Georgia Tech’s lead climbed to 5-0 in the bottom of the third. Haller walked and scored all the way from first on a Johnson grounder back to the circle when the ball was thrown away and bounced into right field after hitting the wall down the first base line. Johnson later scored on a Kate Kuzma base hit up the middle.
NC State will return to action on Wednesday, April 15, with a single game against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. with live stats available on GoPack.com.
