ATLANTA, Ga. NC State softball fell at No. 22 Georgia Tech, 8-0, on Friday, April 10. The loss moves the Pack to 20-17 (3-7 ACC), while the Yellow Jackets climb to 29-11 (7-3 ACC).
Kristen Adkins (15-6) got the win for the Yellow Jackets, while Mendy McKenzie (8-8) was hit with the loss.
Four runs and two throwing errors led to Georgia Tech enjoying a four-run third. Jessica Sinclair lined a single up the middle and a pitch hit Christy Jones. Jen Yee followed with a base hit to center, but the throw back into the infield was errant, allowing Sinclair to score and Jones and Yee to push to second and third. Another run then scored on a Blair Shimandle groundout to first, before Whitey Haller and Tiffany Johnson followed with run scoring singles.
State had runners on the corners with one out in the top of the fourth, but Alyssa Ishibashi got caught in a run down between third and home and was eventually tagged out while attempting to score on a Bridget Desbois fly out to right.
Shimandle and Kelsey Wiseman pushed the score to 6-0 Georgia Tech with a pair of back-to-back two-out run scoring doubles in the bottom of the fourth. The Yellow Jackets later added another run when a Johnson grounder to short was booted.
McKenzie issued a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game early.
Game two will begin shortly.
