ROCK HILL, S.C. NC State dropped a 4-1 road contest at Winthrop on Thursday, March 12. The loss moves the Pack to 10-8 on the year while the Eagles improve to 8-10.
Morgan Peeler (1-2) did an admirable job in the circle, tossing three innings and allowing no earned runs, but she got very little help on offense. Lindsay Campana pitched three innings in relief.
Winthrop pushed one run across in the bottom of the first as Tessa Thomas singled to left and later scored when Peeler got cited for an illegal pitch.
State loaded the bases in the top of the third but could not take advantage. Landon Warren and Lauren Peters picked up back-to-back free passes with one out and Alyssa Ishibashi loaded the bases with a bloop single into shallow right. But Hannah Ojeda flew out to right and Allison Presnell went down on strikes.
The Eagles added another run in the bottom of the third as Lisa Kingsmore crossed the plate following an error on a Lenny Stoddart fielder’s choice to second.
Desbois cut the Winthrop lead in half in the top of the fourth with her third home run of the season, a solo shot down the line in left.
Taylor Wright put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a two run blast to right field.
NC State will open ACC play at Virginia Tech this weekend, March 14-15.
