3/18/2009 12:00:00 AM | Softball
RALEIGH, N.C. A scoreless game changed in a hurry as East Carolina plated five runs in the top of the 10th to down NC State, 5-0, at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium on Wednesday, March 18. The Pack falls to 10-9 in defeat, while the Pirates move to 16-9.
Lindsay Campana (5-4) took the loss, tossing nine scoreless innings and recording eight K’s. She was lifted for Mendy McKenzie in the top of the 10th after failing to record any outs. McKenzie allowed one hit.
Toni Paisley (12-4) fanned 11 in picking up the complete-game win for ECU.
Lauren Peters, Kristine Bechtholdt and Claudia Cooper all had hits for State.
The evening was unquestionably a pitchers duel up until the top of the 10th, as both squads had combined for just eight total hits. Angel Barella began on second for the Pirates and quickly took third when Cristen Aona reached on an error. Paisley then sent a fielder’s choice to second, scoring Barella, before Sarah Bibee and Kaui Tom recorded back-to-back RBI hits. Charina Sumner later added the final two runs with a double down the line in left.
NC State will host Fordham for one game tomorrow, Thursday, March 19. First pitch has been changed to 4 p.m. at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium due to the possibility of rain later in the evening. Live stats will be available via GoPack.com.
