Women's Soccer Falls, 2-1, in Double Overtime

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - The NC State women's soccer team's winning streak ended Friday, Sept. 19 in a double overtime thriller, with William & Mary topping the Pack, 2-1. Lindsay Vera scored the Pack's lone goal in the loss that moved NC State to 7-1 on the season. William & Mary moves to 4-3-1.
Vera's goal came in the 36th minute after she broke away and took a shot from 25 yards out. The ball made it to the left side of the net and past Tribe goalie Meghan Walker to give the Pack the lead.
Stephanie Gerow responded when she capitalized on a cross from Diana Weigel to even the score right before half time.
The game remained scoreless through the second half and the first overtime, as NC State and William & Mary battled back and forth. Paige Dugal had an opportunity with a header to regain the lead in the 87th minute, but Walker made one of her three saves of the game. NC State goalie Kim Kern had four saves throughout the match.
After no shots were taken in the first overtime, double overtime began and four minutes in, Claire Zimmeck broke away and posted the winning goal for the Tribe.
The Wolfpack will next face Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. Live stats are available here.
