Harkey Triple Puts Away Charlotte, 1-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. An RBI triple from Blair Harkey handed NC State a 1-0 road win over Charlotte on Tuesday, April 15. The decision moves the Pack to 26-20 on the year, while the 49ers dip to 25-21.
Harkey had two of State’s four hits, including the game winner.
Lindsay Campana (15-13) got the victory, allowing just three hits and issuing one walk while fanning six. Katy Hackett (11-11) was handed the loss.
The Pack had runners on the corners in the top of the first but didn’t score, as Shanna Smith and Claudia Cooper both recorded infield singles.
A two-out Harkey triple put the Pack up for good in the top of the second. Ashleigh Davis reached on an error at short and later scored on Harkey’s three-bagger into the right-center gap.
The 49ers nearly mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh, but a game-ending double play quashed that. Serena Smith singled through the right side, and then took second on a sac-bunt from Jaime West. Keri Palma then flew out to right, and Kristine Bechtholdt’s relay throw to second doubled up Smith to end the game.
State and Charlotte will begin game two of today’s twin bill shortly.
