Ellis Inducted into USF Hall of Fame

RALEIGH, N.C. NC State softball pitching coach Leigh Ann Ellis was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame at the University of South Florida this past Friday, Nov. 14, in Tampa, Fla. A 2004 finalist for national player of the year and a Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America honoree, Ellis twice garnered All-Conference USA first team accolades during her collegiate tenure and was named C-USA Pitcher of the Year in 2004.
“I’m very happy for Leigh Ann to receive this honor,” said NC State head coach Lisa Navas. “She was an outstanding pitcher during her career and it’s great for her to be recognized by her university.”
Ellis was a star pitcher for the Bulls, collecting 77 wins and 633 strikeouts in her final two seasons. As a senior, she set the school record for victories with 43, marking the third best total in the country. Of the field she served as president of the student-athlete advisory committee, representing the Bulls at the NCAA Leadership Conference.
“It’s a real honor to be inducted into a hall of fame of any kind, especially one at your alma mater,” said Ellis. “I had a fun and successful career at USF, and I’m looking forward to another challenging and exciting season of Wolfpack softball this coming year.”
Ellis received a bachelor of arts degree in interdisciplinary social science in May of 2004.
The NC State softball team will begin the 2009 season at the Crowne Plaza Classic in Houston, Texas this coming Feb. 13-15.
