NC State Women's Tennis Outlasts Old Dominion

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team defeated Old Dominion 5-2 Friday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Complex. Elin Stahl Johansson clinched the victory for the Wolfpack at No. 2 singles when she shutout Barbara Costa 6-0 in the third set.
Playing a person down, the Monarchs had to forfeit a singles and doubles match, but still won the doubles point to enter singles play with the score tied 1-1. Action was interrupted 45 minutes into doubles play when rain forced the match indoors. The change of venue helped out Old Dominion's No. 2 doubles squad, as they trailed 6-3 outside and came back to win 9-7 once indoors.
Julia Roach and Barbara Orlay both made quick work of their singles opponents, winning in straight sets for NC State. Roach defeated Barbara Kerner 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, while Orlay dispatched Kerstin Endlich 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1. Danielle Stadelmann extended the margin of victory for the Wolfpack with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Linda Garder at No. 5 singles.
NC State improves to 8-9 with the victory and Old Dominion falls to 8-9 with the loss. The Wolfpack returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Furman at noon. The Pack's four seniors will be honored following the match and to help pay tribute to the departing leaders, free food will be provided to fans in attendance between the doubles and singles rounds.
