Raymond Harrison joined North Carolina State University as a Senior Associate AD in May of 2016. During his time at the University, he has significantly impacted the direction and success of the athletics department. As a member of the Executive Staff, he actively participates in fundraising for departmental needs and provides support for all 23 sport programs through his leadership, vision, and collaboration with the Pack Performance Team. This group is comprised of personnel from sports medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and sport psychology and has helped many teams achieve unprecedented success, raising the competitive profile and recognition of NC State Athletics on a national level.
In addition to leading the Pack Performance Team, Harrison has served as sport supervisor for multiple teams at NC State. Each of those teams has participated in post-season play, with several achieving Top 25 finishes and numerous firsts in their respective program histories.
Harrison works with key University departments as a bridge to the larger campus community. He builds and maintains relationships with Housing, Dining, Student Conduct, University Police, Admissions, and other campus units that help meet the needs of student-athletes and staff. His focus is on aligning the University’s mission with the athletics department’s culture providing opportunities for student-athletes to excel in competition, the classroom, and their careers.
While at NC State, Harrison has advocated for student-athletes to be involved in conversations about topics that matter to them. As an example, student-athletes consistently shared an interest in speaking openly about mental health issues. Those conversations led to an increased focus on and support of mental health resources, including the expansion of the athletics department’s sports psychology staff from one person to three full-time mental health professionals.
Harrison also supervises the efforts of the Office of Student-Athlete Engagement and Leadership, which spearheads the education, development, and preparation of all student-athletes for life beyond sport. The office plays a key role in the continuing education and resource allocation for student-athletes through Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) legislation.
As the athletics department’s Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Harrison partners with the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO). Harrison works closely with Pack United, the student-athlete led organization recognized by Chancellor Woodson for its exceptional efforts and contributions.
Harrison is also involved in various committees and groups outside of NC State. He is an athletics department representative for the ACC UNITE, a 2021 participant in the NCAA Pathway Program, and a member of the NCAA Division I Sports Oversight Committee. Previously, he has served on the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics.
Prior to NC State, Harrison served in senior leadership roles at Texas A&M University and the University of South Carolina. He also held positions as an academic support and life skills professional at the University of Louisville and University of Cincinnati.
Harrison and his wife, Jamala, have two sons, Emil and Evan, and reside in Cary.
