NCBWA Names Rett Johnson Second Team Freshman All-America

RALEIGH, N.C. – After one of the most consistent seasons by a Wolfpack freshman, Rett Johnson has been named a second-team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Monday afternoon.
Just one of 34 standout freshmen from across the country, Johnson finished his first year with the Wolfpack, playing in 54 games and starting in 53 of them. After hitting above .400 for much of this season, Johnson finished with a .381 batting average in 197 at-bats.
Johnson, an All-ACC Second Team and All-ACC Freshman Team honoree who was named to Baseball America's 2026 Midseason College Freshman of the Year Watch List, recorded 75 hits, 10 doubles, a home run, and 31 runs batted in while scoring 53 runs this season. The Youngsville, N.C., native hit safely in a team-best 28 straight games and reached base in 30 straight games to end the season.
Finishing the regular season with the highest batting average in the country by a freshman, Johnson was selected to participate in the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp this summer.
Johnson is now the 11th Wolfpack player named an NCBWA Freshman All-American and the sixth in the past four seasons. Anderson Nance was named to the second team last season as well. Other NCBWA Freshman All-Americans include Carlos Rodon, Trea Turner, Andrew Kizner, Brian Brown, Patrick Bailey, Reid Johnston and Dominic Fritton.
The 2026 NCBWA Freshman All-American Team features players from 32 different schools, 14 different conferences and one independent. Johnson is just one of five freshmen from the ACC.
The Freshman All-American team is voted upon by the membership of the NCBWA. The 2026 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 9.
