Eighth-Seeded NC State to Take on Top-Seeded Georgia in Elite Eight

ATHENS, Ga. - Eighth-seeded NC State women's tennis will face top-seeded and host Georgia in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round on Friday, May 15 at 4 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens. The match marks the Wolfpack's fourth Elite Eight appearance in the last six seasons under head coach Simon Earnshaw after reaching the round in three consecutive years from 2021-23.

NC State battled past ninth-seeded Texas, 4-2, in the NCAA Super Regional round on Friday, May 8 at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2023. Texas claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and two, but the Wolfpack responded with singles victories on courts one, two, four and five to secure the win. Mia Slama and Anna Zyryanova each recorded top 10 victories, defeating the No. 3 and No. 6 ranked players in the country, respectively.

The 2026 season marks NC State's 16th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wolfpack has reached the Sweet 16 in seven consecutive tournaments, excluding the canceled 2020 season, and advanced to championship weekend for the first time since 2023 this season. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament were held May 1-3 at campus sites of the top 16 seeds, followed by Super Regionals on May 8-9 at the remaining top eight sites.
