Women’s Tennis Sees Season Come to a Close in Elite Eight

ATHENS, Ga. - Eighth-seeded NC State women's tennis fell to top-seeded Georgia, 4-1, Friday evening at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. The Wolfpack closes the season with its fourth Elite Eight appearance in the last six seasons and wraps up a year that included the program's second NCAA doubles national title and second ACC Championship in program history.
With the season-ending loss, NC State finishes the spring with a 25-8 overall dual record, marking the third-most wins in a single season under head coach Simon Earnshaw. The Wolfpack also set a program record earlier this season by winning the doubles point in 14 consecutive matches.
Georgia claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. After the Bulldogs secured a 6-2 victory on court one, they clinched the point with a 6-4 win on court three. At the conclusion of doubles play, No. 49 Anna Zyryanova and Jasmine Conway held a 5-3 lead over Georgia's No. 4-ranked duo on court two.
In singles action, NC State built early momentum by taking three first sets and earning the opening point of the round when Victoria Osuigwe defeated No. 81 Sofia Rojas, 6-3, 6-2, on court five. Georgia, however, responded with victories on courts one, two and three to secure the match and advance to the Final Four.
