Wolfpack Finishes Fifth at ACC Championship Stroke Play; Advances to Match Play for First Time

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The NC State women's golf team made more history at the ACC Women's Golf Championship, tallying fifth place in 54-hole stroke play to advance to match play for the first time as a program (since the ACC added it to the championship in 2020). NC State shot a 12-under 852 (284-283-285), the best 54-hole score at an ACC Championship in program history by 19 strokes.
The fifth place in stroke play is the best for the Pack at an ACC Championship since 2016 and the 12-under par score as a team is the lowest in relation to par this season. As the No. 5 seed in match play, the Wolfpack will square off against No. 4 seed Duke, starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The winner of that match will play No. 2 seed SMU in the semifinals later in the afternoon.
The Wolfpack's 285 on Friday now marks the third best 18-hole team score at an ACC Championship in school history. This comes after NC State's big Thursday with the second round score breaking the NC State ACC Championship 18-hole team record (283) and the first round following as the second lowest (284).
Four players finished in the top 30 in the tournament. Marie Eline Madsen led the way with a 6-under 210 (67-74-69) to finish in a tie for sixth. She closed out the final round strong with four birdies, 13 pars and one bogey. The 6-under par through the 54 holes also is a new ACC Championship program record.
Wrightsville Beach native Ellie Hildreth had a strong ACC Championship debut, logging a tie for 18th place with a 3-under 213 (70-72-71). She finished the final round with three birdies, 13 pars and two bogeys.
Elizabeth Sullivan was coming off a freshman 18-hole program record on Thursday and was solid to close out stroke play with a 1-over 73. She finished the tournament in a tie for 28th with a career-low 216 (78-65-73). Vania Simont tied with Sullivan for 28th. Simont was even through all three rounds with a 216 (72-72-72), highlighted by Friday's round where she had pars on all 18 holes.
Lindsay McGrath closed out the tournament with a 1-over 73. She shot a 14-over 230 (75-82-73) to tie for 69th.
NC State's previous best 54-hole score at an ACC Championship with a 7-over 871.
