Â
NC State (12-1) held a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh before Ryan launched one 403 feet to left field to add some much-needed insurance, making it 4-1. Two more runs came off Chris McHugh's first career triple, and in the ninth, three more Wolfpack runs scored on a Drew Lanphere sacrifice fly and a Rett Johnson two-RBI single, sealing the victory.
Â
Johnson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Along with his homer, Ryan hit a double. Ty Head doubled to extend his on-base streak to 13 games.
Â
Ryder Garino (1-0) earned the win after a career-best performance on the mound, pitching four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk, while striking out a career-high six batters.
Â
Luke Hemric made his second consecutive midweek start, pitching three innings, allowing one run on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts. Fellow freshman Vincent DeCarlo was his battery mate and made his first career start.
Â
Queens' starter Adrian Quezada (1-2) kept the Wolfpack in check for most of the game, throwing 6.2 innings while allowing five hits, one walk, and striking out seven. However, the Wolfpack eventually tagged him for five runs.
Â
The scoring opened in the third when Queens capitalized on a wild pitch to score the game's first run. The lead was short-lived as the Pack responded with a run in the bottom of the third on a Johnson sacrifice fly.
Â
Another freshman's sacrifice fly gave NC State the lead, with Christian Serrano driving the ball to left-center to easily score the speedy Head from third.
Â
After the big seventh inning, Queens scored their second run on a double, making it 6-2. Aiden Kitchings and Sam Harris combined to limit the damage and maintain a four-run lead.
Â
NC State's Danny Heintz took the mound as the Pack's fifth and final pitcher, closing out the game with two strikeouts and a ground ball to second base. The Wolfpack totaled 11 strikeouts and just three walks.
Â
NC State is off to its best start since 2023, when it opened with a 13-0 record. The Pack will look for its 13th win when they face Lafayette College for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 6th at 3 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ACCNX.
