ELON, N.C. – NC State women's soccer (0-5-2, 0-0-0 ACC) played to a 0-0 draw at Elon (4-0-2, 0-0-0 CAA) on Thursday night at Rudd Field. The Pack outshot the Phoenix, 20-6, and controlled possession for 58% of the match but could not find the back of the net in its second draw of the campaign.
"(I'm) really proud of the commitment, fight, and energy," said head coach Gary Higgins. "We started the game really well and dominated most phases of the game. (I'm) really proud of the controllable factors from the team, that was something we really lacked against Utah. We talked about that and said that wasn't acceptable, and going into conference play we need to make sure that we're committed in everything that we do. We definitely did that today."
The Pack applied early pressure, outshooting the Phoenix, 9-2, in the opening half. Jade Bordeleau placed two shots on target and Erica Roberts added another, forcing Elon goalkeeper Katie Bisgrove into three first-half saves.
The deadlock carried into the second half as the Pack generated 11 more scoring chances. Mana Nakata and Mary Frances Symmes each tested Bisgrove with shots on target, but the Elon keeper came up with three saves to keep the game level.
In the tie, Olivia Pratapas returned to goal and kept Elon off the board with two saves, helping NC State earn its second unbeaten result of the season.
Of Note:
NC State concludes its nonconference slate with a match against Campbell on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Dail Soccer Stadium. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. and will air on ACCNX.
