
Wolfpack Falls in Straight Sets to Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The NC State volleyball team fell to Big 12 foe Kansas State in straight sets Wednesday evening at the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas Classic.
 
The Wolfpack moves to 3-1 on the season.

The Pack remains in Manhattan to take on Nevada on Thursday, September 4 at 1pm for the final match of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas Classic hosted by Kansas State.

- The Wildcats started the match on a 4-0 scoring run to immediately slow the Pack. NC State struggled to gain momentum offensively and found its only scoring run toward the end of the set.
- Kansas State took set one, 25-19.
- The second set started off close, but the Wildcats took a 16-8 lead that forced the Pack to make a substitution change.
- The Wolfpack went on a 6-2 scoring run to minimize the Wildcats lead to four and force K-State to take a timeout.
- NC State made several attempts to minimize the deficit, but the Wildcats offense was too much to handle. K-State took the second set, 25-18.
- Kansas State took the first two points of set three, but freshman Hailey McFadden helped get the Pack its first after a key save to keep the rally going. The two teams continued to battle with the Wildcats never leading by more than two before the media timeout.
- K-State took four straight points out of the media timeout, 19-13, forcing head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney to take a timeout.
- The Wolfpack battled back after falling behind, 21-15. Service aces by redshirt-sophomore Ashley Mullen and senior Courtney Bryant helped bring the Wolfpack within one of the Wildcats, 22-21, forcing a K-State timeout.
- Kansas State went on to take the set, 25-21, and win the match in straight sets.
- Bryant led the Wolfpack with seven kills and freshman Rebecca Ring added five.
- Redshirt-junior Elaisa Villar led the setters with 12 assists on the evening.
The Pack remains in Manhattan to take on Nevada on Thursday, September 4 at 1pm for the final match of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas Classic hosted by Kansas State.
