
Ring Posts Career High in Loss at #25 UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team fell to 25th-ranked UNC in four sets Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Arena.
The Wolfpack moves to 7-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
#25 UNC 3, NC State 1
The Wolfpack will return to Raleigh to host Miami and Florida State for Alumni Weekend starting on Friday, October 4 in Reynolds Coliseum. First serve against the Canes will take place at 7pm on ACCNX.
The Wolfpack moves to 7-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
#25 UNC 3, NC State 1
- The Wolfpack were ready to go from the start as it jumped out to four-point (8-4) lead to begin the opening frame. The Tar Heels used two early timeouts to after the Pack continued to dominate offensively.
- NC State was sharp defensively with setter Elaisa Villar and defensive specialist Sydney Daniels making several digs that kept the Pack going. The Wolfpack took the first set, 25-19, after holding the Tar Heels to just a 0.139 hitting percentage.
- Freshman opposite Jordan Smith led all scorers with six kills after concluding the opening set with a .556 hitting efficiency.
- The Tar Heels used the break in between sets to regroup and came out hot in set two, leading by as many as six (14-8). Headed into the media timeout, NC State trailed 15-9 and were held to a 0.045 hitting efficiency.
- The Wolfpack continued to chip away at the Tar Heels lead and eventually minimized it to three (16-13), but UNC continued to fight back. Head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney used a timeout as the Pack trailed by six (19-13) with hopes of slowing the Tar Heels.
- After the Tar Heels increased its scoring run to six unanswered points, the Pack used its final timeout to regroup. A kill by senior middle blocker Lily Cropper ended the scoring run and despite the Pack's effort to minimize the deficit, the Tar Heels took the set, 25-15.
- The rivals kept the third set close, with the Tar Heels never leading by more two points. Headed into the media timeout, The Wolfpack trailed 15-13 but continued to battle and eventually minimized the deficit to one (16-17).
- UNC increased the lead to a set high three points (17-20) and Wargo-Kearney took a timeout to regroup the Pack. UNC ended up taking the third set, 25-21, and gaining the overall lead, 2-1.
- The fourth set was a battle from the first point. The Tar Heels maintained the lead throughout but never led by more than one point until after the media timeout.
- A service error and attack error by the Wolfpack allowed the Tar Heels to take a 21-18 lead and force an NC State timeout. A kill by Cropper gave the Pack a bit of momentum and allowed the squad to rally back and force match point to be played twice.
- UNC ended up taking the fourth set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.
- Freshman outside Rebecca Ring posted a career high of 17 kills to pace the Pack throughout the match. Senior outside hitter Courtney Bryant posted her sixth double-double of the season after picking up 12 kills and 19 digs.
