
Bryant Post Career High in Four Set Loss at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team dropped a touch four set match to Duke in its conference opener Friday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Wolfpack moves to 7-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

The Wolfpack will remain on the road as it heads to Chapel Hill on Sunday to take on the 25th-ranked Tar Heels at 1pm on ACCNX.

- The two teams kept the opening set close, but it was the Wolfpack who remained on top. The Pack was the first to 15 with a kill by junior outside Clara Vondran.
- Head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney used her first timeout of the set after the Blue Devils minimized the deficit to one (19-18). Duke took its first lead of the set (20-19) after a long rally but a back row attack by senior Courtney Bryant tied it up 20-all. Duke ended up taking the first set, 25-23, after a bad dig by the Pack sent the ball into the stands.
- Bryant led the squad with seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage in the opening frame.
- Despite the Blue Devils taking the first two points of the second set, NC State took over the lead quickly. A 5-0 scoring run by the Pack forced an early timeout by the Blue Devils.
- Bryant continued to dominate for the Wolfpack, in addition to Vondran. The Pack took set two, 25-20, to even the match at one each.
- The two teams kept it close in set three, with neither team leading by more than two at a time. Duke was the first to 15 headed into the media timeout, but the Wolfpack quickly tied it up with a kill from freshman Sa'Mya Dorsey.
- After back-to-back attacking errors by the Blue Devils, NC State regained the lead. Duke quickly took back over and ended up taking the set, 25-21.
- NC State held the lead to begin the fourth set, but Duke quickly tied it up 10-all. The two teams battled back-and-forth, exchanging points until the Wolfpack reached 15 first to head into a media timeout. The Blue Devils gained all the momentum out of the timeout and went on to take the fourth set, 25-21, and claim the match 3-1.
- Bryant picked up her fifth double-double of the season when she posted a new career high 22 kills and 11 digs. She hit .429 on the evening to mark the second best hitting percentage in a match this season.
