
NC State Takes on Virginia for ACC Series at The Doak

RALEIGH, N.C. – After a midweek victory over UNC Greensboro, NC State Baseball gets set to welcome Virginia for a three-game conference series from Doak Field at Dail Park beginning on Friday, April 4th at 6 p.m.
Games one and two of the series will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with game three nationally televised on ACC Network at 3 p.m. Sunday's game will be the second for the Wolfpack this season on ACC Network. The first came against Duke in game one of their series with the Blue Devils, which the Wolfpack dropped 5-1.
Fans are encouraged to stay after the game on Friday for the first #Pack9 fireworks show. Saturday, the first 500 fans will receive the second set of this year's #Pack9 baseball trading cards.
Last season in Charlottesville, the Wolfpack took two out of three from the Cavaliers, and during the 2023 season in Raleigh, Virginia, the Wolfpack won the series, winning two out of three. The series began in 1955 with NC State victorious 5-2, and the Wolfpack holds a 125-84-1 record in the series.

Friday Starter Dominic Fritton was named to USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. Fritton is 4-2 on the season with a 2.16 ERA. In 41.2 innings pitched, he leads NC State with 59 strikeouts, and opposing batters have an average of .215. In the ACC, Fritton is second in innings pitched and has struck out the third most batters and his earned run average puts him sixth in the conference. Fritton has a 28:6 K/BB ratio through 20 innings and three conference starts, holding ACC hitters to a .183 batting average against
Josh Hogue is coming off a four-hit game against UNCG; it was the second four-hit game from a Wolfpack batter as he joins Chris McHugh, who has the other. Hogue is hitting .313 on the season with 31 hits, five home runs, and 34 RBIs. He is tied for the team lead with nine multi-RBI games, second with nine multiple-hit games, and a seven-game hitting streak is the longest this season.
The Wolfpack has lost one game all season when leading after the sixth inning. A key contributor to that success has been Andrew Shaffner, who came out of the bullpen. Shaffner has appeared 11 times this season and is 3-1 with a 3.10 ERA. He has 24 strikeouts and just five walks and leads the team with three saves. In his last outing against UNCG, Shaffner pitched a career-high 4.1 innings and finished with a career-best seven strikeouts.
NC State plays its best baseball when it plays clean baseball. The Wolfpack is 11-2 when it makes no errors, compared to an 8-8 record when it makes at least one error.
