Raleigh, NC - Behind another run-rule victory and a double-digit scoring output, the Wolfpack won it's fifth straight game after defeating Campbell 11-1 Wednesday afternoon from Doak Field.
Â
The rain delayed the first pitch by 15 minutes, but NC State (8-5) wasn't affected, putting up 11 runs on 11 hits with no errors on the day. During the five-game win streak, NC State's offense has outscored their opponent 53-14. NC State pitching has a 2.41 ERAÂ over that span and has 55 strikeouts to just seven walks.
Â
In his first career start, Wolfpack starting pitcher Jacob Dudan (1-0) got the win. Dudan tossed three hit-less innings and tied his career high in strikeouts with six. Dudan started the game striking out five of six batters, picking up his first win of the season.Â
Â
Josh Hogue homered for the second straight game. His grand slam in the fifth inning broke the game open and was a part of a seven-run outburst in the frame. Matt Heavner followed with a three-run home run to make it 10-1.Â
Â
Ryan Jaros and Brayden Fraasman each had two hits, with eight of the nine Wolfpack starters recording a hit. Campbell had a tough time on the basepaths because NC State catcher Drew Lanphere threw out three Campbell would-be base stealers.Â
Â
The Pack started the scoring in the third inning with four straight hits from Jaros, Ty Head, Heavner, and Luke Nixon. Two were RBI doubles from Head and Nixon. With a groundout to shortstop from McHugh, the Pack took a 3-0 lead.Â
Â
Jaxon Lucas would come on to relieve Dudan in the fourth inning, going two innings, giving up three hits, while striking out two. Lucas surrendered the only Campbell run of the game from a home run by Jonah Oster in the fourth inning. The fourth inning home run broke up 19 scorless innings from Wolfpack pitching.Â
Â
Campbell would walk two batters and hit one to load the bases with no out in the fifth inning. A pitching change would bring Hogue to the plate. Hogue sent a ball over the right field fence, hitting the season's second grand slam.Â
Â
Later in the fifth inning, the Wolfpack put two more runners on for Heavner, who hit his first home run of the season. A three-run home run added some insurance for the Wolfpack, extending the lead to 10-1.Â
Â
The winning run came in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice from Fraasman.Â
Â
Camden Wimbish would close out the game in the seventh, going three up, three down to get the run-rule victory.Â
UP NEXT: NC State will look to continue the win streak this weekend as the Wolfpack welcomes Wright State for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 7 at 3 p.m. and broadcast on ACCNX.
