RALEIGH, NC - Behind Ryan Marohn's complete-game shutout, the Wolfpack completed the series sweep against Canisius on Sunday afternoon from Doak Field, defeating the Golden Griffins 10-0 in a seven inning run rule victory.Â
Â
Marohn (2-1) had a career day on the mound, shattering his career high in strikeouts and finishing with 11 on the afternoon. Marohn also set a new career high in innings pitched, going seven strong innings and allowing no walks, no runs, and five hits. Marhon threw 100 pitches, with a first pitch strike percentage of 73%.Â
Â
Marohn logged the first complete game for the Wolfpack since March of last year against Notre Dame.Â
Â
NC State (6-5) moved back above .500 and was in control from start to finish. Justin DeCriscio, in the leadoff spot, continues to make an impact, picking up his fourth multi-RBI game and fourth multi-hit game, finishing with a home run.Â
Â
Alex Sosa and Josh Hogue each added two RBIs and two hits on the day. Freshman Ty Head continues to have patient at-bats, drawing four walks today, putting him at 13 on the season, five more ahead of the second most.Â
Â
Canisius (0-6) starting pitcher Aaron Duffy (0-2) picks up the loss, going 1.1 innings, surrendering two earned runs. Golden Griffins' pitching struck out nine Wolfpack batters but also walked nine and made three errors.Â
Â
The Wolfpack started with a bang; a leadoff home run from DeCriscio gave the Pack the lead in the first inning. DeCriscio's leadoff home run is the first for the Wolfpack since Brandon Butterworth against Louisville in April last year. Decriscio had multiple RBIs in every game of the series.Â
Â
In the second, NC State added two more after loading the bases with back-to-back walks and a hit by pitch shortly after a Canisus error put a run on the board. Following Nixon, a walk from Chris McHugh would give the Pack a three-run lead.Â
Â
Canisius used two hits and a sacrifice bunt to get runners on second and third. Marohn would leave the runners stranded working out of the inning with a fly out to second.
After a Canisius error that led McHugh to get to second, Sosa would record an RBI single, extending the Wolfpack lead. The Pack continued to pass the baton, with Brayden Fraasman and Hogue notching hits to push the lead even further. A Canisius wild pitch brought home Drew Lanphere, followed by another Wolfpack RBI from a Ryan Jaros double.Â
Â
McHugh stayed hot on the weekend with a single to left that extended his hit streak to four games. A failed pickoff attempt moved McHugh to third for Sosa to get another RBI hit. The Wolfpack extended their lead to 9-0.Â
Â
To lead off the sixth inning, Hogue lined a double down the left field line, one hopping the fence for his second hit of the game. After a walk from Head, DeCriscio hit a single to shallow right field for his second RBI of the game.
Â
Marohn returned to the mound at the top of the seventh and sent down Canisus to secure the 10-run rule. NC State scored 32 runs throughout the weekend series, out-scoring Canisius 32-13.
UP NEXT: NC State will travel to Greensboro on Tuesday for a midweek matchup against UNCG at 4 p.m.
