Bryant, Vondran Lead the Pack in Four Set Thriller Over Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The NC State volleyball team defeated Syracuse in four sets to pick up its sixth conference win of the season in conference play.
Senior outside hitter Courtney Byrant led the squad with 16 kills and added 12 digs to pick up her 12th double-double of the season. Junior outside Clara Vondran tallied a season high 10 kills and picked up an ace from the service line.
The Pack struggled to gain momentum in the opening frame and the Orange took the set, 25-20. Syracuse out-hit NC State in the opening frame by .163.
NC State opened the second set with a 10-4 scoring run to shake things up for Syracuse. The Orange eventually minimized its deficit to three (17-20), but the Pack comminuted to control the momentum. A kill by opposite Jordan Smith allowed the Pack to take set two, 25-20.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle between the two programs and Syracuse took a 20-13 lead over the Pack. An offensive surge by NC State allowed the Pack to rally back and take the set, 26-24, after a 13-4 scoring run.
With redshirt-junior Elaisa Villar behind the service line, the Pack opened the final set with a 4-0 lead over the Orange. Despite Syracuse rallying back to tie the frame seven-all, the Wolfpack offensive continued to battle. Vondran tallied three consecutive kills in the frame to push the Pack's lead to five (19-14).
NC State closed out the match on a 5-0 scoring run to take the set, 25-18, and the match, 3-1.
Senior middle blocker Lily Cropper led the Pack from the service line with three aces and added seven kills with just as many blocks to her stat line. Villar led the setters with 37 assists and 24 digs, in addition to a block and kill.
Next Up
The Pack will remain on the road for another weekend of conference action. NC State will head to Charlottesville to take on Virginia on Friday, November 21. The match is slated for 7pm on ACCNX.
