
Women’s Basketball to Play Preseason Top 10 Matchup with Maryland

RALEIGH – The No. 9/8 NC State women's basketball team will have one last preseason tuneup open to the public, as the Pack takes on No. 10 Maryland on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. The event is a part of the Bad Boy Mowers Series and will feature a doubleheader with the NC State men's basketball team who will follow by playing the South Carolina men at 4:30 p.m.

SCOUTING NC STATE
- NC State was picked to finish second in the ACC Preseason Poll, receiving 25 first-place votes
- NC State had two recipients on the All-ACC Preseason Team with Zoe Brooks and Khamil Pierre. Brooks is coming off a 2024-25 season having averaged 14.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Pierre averaged 20.4 points off 49.8 percent shooting, 9.6 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game at Vanderbilt
- The team was ranked No. 9 in the AP Preseason Poll for its fifth top 10 projection in the past six seasons. NC State was also ranked No. 8 in the Preseason Coaches Poll
- Last season, Brooks was tabbed to the ACC First Team and was named the ACC Most Improved Player. She is the leading scorer, as well as the leader in assists and steals from last year's team
- Tilda Trygger was tabbed to the ACC All-Freshman Team, having started in 23 games to average 6.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game along with a team's most 22 blocks among returners. Zamareya Jones logged 7.1 points per game as a freshman off the bench
- The Pack returns seven and brought in four newcomers with two freshmen and two transfers
- NC State brought in the No. 25 top recruiting class, according to ESPN, with No. 65, recruit Destiny "Ky'She" Lunan from Goodyear, Arizona and No. 68 Adelaide Jernigan from Winston-Salem, North Carolina
- Head coach Wes Moore is in his 13th season at the helm, and he has logged a .760 winning percentage with a 301-95 record, as well as 859-264 mark as a head coach
- In the Pack's preseason exhibition game against High Point, UConn transfer Qadence Samuels had a great showing in her unofficial debut with 14 points and eight rebounds. Trygger logged a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Jones logged 12 points, five assists and four steals
- The Pack has one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country, as NC State's opponents have an average 2024-25 NET ranking of 73.6, which is the second best in the ACC
SCOUTING MARYLAND
- Maryland was ranked No. 10 in the AP Preseason Poll and WBCA Coaches Poll
- The Terrapins made it to the NCAA Sweet 16 after logging a 25-8 overall record and 13-5 mark in Big Ten play last season
- The Terrapins were picked to finish second in both the 2025-26 Coaches and Media Big Team Preseason Rankings
- Maryland saw two players on the Preseason All-Big Team lists with Yarden Garzon and Kaylene Smikle
- Smikle led the Terrapins with 17.9 points per game and a team's most 50 steals last season
- Saylor Poffenbarger is the leading returning rebounder, having registered 7.2 boards per game in her first season with Maryland after transferring from Arkansas. She also logged 58 assists, the most among returners
- Garzon is a key transfer for Maryland, having logged 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and a 40.7 percentage from beyond the arc at Indiana as a junior last year
