WILMINGTON, N.C. – Second-ranked NC State men's soccer moves back into the win column after a forceful 3-0 win over UNCW Wednesday night on the road.
In front of a season record crowd of 2,463 for the Seahawks, NC State head coach Marc Hubbard tallied his 250th NCAA DI career win.
Securing his 14th goal of the season and continuing to lead the country in goals, Donavan Phillip got things started in the 13th minute. Assisted by Taig Healy and Calem Tommy, Phillip gave his team the ease of a 1-0 lead that would hold for the majority of the game.
Throughout the game, scoring opportunities floated back and forth on each side. The steady keeper for the Pack, Logan Erb, collected six saves that were crucial in ensuring the team's ninth shutout of the season.
Nearly 15 minutes into the second half, Riley Moloney serviced a free-kick that rebounded off the far post followed by Taig Healy's wide shot just minutes later to continue the pressure on UNCW.
In the final 10 minutes of the game, Tommy and Phillip connected to feed Caden Tolentino at the top of the box for him to find his third goal of the season and boost the score to 2-0.
On a set piece with less than two minutes to go, the Seahawks set up a defending wall in front of their keeper that caused confusion on their own team for Moloney to easily find the back of the net and top off the score, 3-0.
Ibrahim Conde found himself back in the starting lineup on the front line after recovering from an early-season injury.
