NC State Hosts Towson in 2025 Season Opener

RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State's gymnastics season will begin Saturday, Jan. 4, at 4 p.m. ET in Reynolds Coliseum as the Wolfpack host former EAGL rival Towson University.

Scouting the Tigers
The last time NC State faced Towson was at the 2023 EAGL Championship, where Towson claimed the title with a team score of 196.500, edging NC State's 196.425. Earlier that season, on Feb. 10, 2023, the Wolfpack competed in a quad meet in Towson, with the Tigers winning 196.375 to 194.775.
Towson enters the 2025 season as a two-time EAGL champion and has earned a spot in the last four NCAA tournaments. Eight returning Tigers earned 10 All-EAGL selections in 2024, with one honor in each event rotation. The Tigers are predicted to finish first in the EAGL this season after an undefeated 4-0 conference run in 2024.
Regular-Season Champions
NC State claimed its first-ever ACC regular-season title in 2024, defeating Clemson 197.575–196.000. The Wolfpack's score was the second-highest in program history. Emily Shepard led the team with a record-breaking all-around score of 39.750, becoming the first NC State gymnast to earn a 9.9 or higher in all four events during a single meet.
Making History
NC State also captured its first ACC Championship since 1984 with a score of 197.550 at the Greensboro Coliseum, marking the highest road score in program history. Individual titles went to Ashley Knight (vault, 9.900), Chloe Negrete (beam, 9.950; floor, 9.975), and Emily Shepard (all-around, 39.500).
Chloe Negrete: More to Give
Chloe Negrete returns for her sixth and final year with NC State after an extraordinary 2024 campaign. Named ACC Specialist of the Year, Negrete notched 19 podium finishes and 15 scores of 9.9 or higher, earning ACC Specialist of the Week honors twice and being named ACC Gymnast of the Week twice. Her leadership and consistency helped the Wolfpack clinch both the ACC Regular Season and Championship titles. With Negrete's return, the Wolfpack are poised for another successful season.
Hitting the Books
Negrete was also named the 2024 ACC Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A 4.0 GPA graduate in Sport Management, she has earned academic honors throughout all five seasons at NC State and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Sport Management. Other academic honorees include Meg Adler, Kailee Adomaites, Peyton Childs, Katya Edwards, Maddie Hall, Katie Harper, Alexis Ortega, Madeline Reid, Emily Shepard, and Krista Zultevicz.
WCGA All-Americans
Eleven members of the 2024 NC State gymnastics program were named to the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Scholastic All-America team. Kailee Adomaites, Elle Hadrick, Negrete, Sofia Obregon, and Krista Zultevicz each maintained a 4.0 GPA, either cumulatively or over the course of the academic year. Negrete earned the Scholastic All-America honor for the fifth consecutive year.

2024 Season Review
NC State's 2024 season concluded with a fourth-place finish at the Ann Arbor Regional. The Wolfpack posted four scores of 197+ during the season, marking one of the program's most successful years, which included winning both the ACC regular-season and postseason titles.
Looking Ahead to 2025
The Wolfpack's 2025 freshman class has been ranked No. 18 in the nation by College Gym News. NC State signed six athletes to the 2025 class, including four local standouts: Bella Obryant, Kyla Petrocci, Syniya Thomas, and Caroline Volk. Ava Myers, a native of Cedar Grove, N.J., and Jenna Rusk from New Braunfels, Texas, also made Raleigh their home this summer after developing a strong passion for the program.
Preseason Poll Standouts
The Wolfpack enters the 2025 season ranked No. 3 in the ACC Preseason Poll. Katie Harper and Chloe Negrete were named to the ACC Preseason Watch List, while freshman Ava Myers earned a spot on the ACC Newcomer Watchlist.
