#22 Pack Falls to #21 Harvard

RALEIGH, N.C. – 22nd-ranked NC State men's tennis fell to 21st-ranked Harvard by a 2-5 decision on Tuesday evening.

Highlighted by a ranked match-up on court one, all three doubles courts featured tight battles that were forced to be played out. Harvard took court three first by a 6-2 win, followed by Jules Leroux and Luca Staeheli pairing up on court two for a 6-3 win to even out the field. On court one, ranked duo Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek trailed their match attempting to come back to clinch the point over their 71st-ranked opponents but ultimately fell by a 6-4 decision.

With a 1-0 edge moving into singles, the Crimson went on to claim four singles courts to clinch their 5-2 win.

Leroux and Staeheli recorded the only wins of the day for the Pack, racking up their doubles win together as well as individual singles victories. Staeheli dominated on court three putting the first point on the board for the Pack by running through straight sets and only dropping one game. Leroux fought through a first set tiebreaker that carried his momentum to take the second set as well for the second team point.

Fons Van Sambeek, Martin Borisiouk, and William Manning each fought valiantly on their courts in singles, with Manning's match closing out the night coming down to the wire at the very end.

Up Next
The Pack travels to Mississippi State for the annual ITA Kickoff tournament. The team is set to compete against LSU on Saturday, January 25 and will play either Pepperdine or 11th-ranked Mississippi State on Sunday, January 26.
