Wolfpack falls to Tennessee in Duke’s Mayo Classic

It was a difficult night for NC State, totaling 143 yards to the Volunteers 460 yards of total offense. The Wolfpack hadn't had a game of fewer than 200 yards of total offense since 2016 against Notre Dame when they had 198 yards combined.
Quarterback Grayson McCall was 15-22 for 104 yards and an interception. Freshman quarterback CJ Bailey saw his first action with NC State after taking the field in the fourth quarter.
Leading the Wolfpack in receiving was once again KC Concepcion, who finished the game with five receptions for 53 yards and surpassed 1000 yards for his career.
Redshirt freshman Hollywood Smothers led the Wolfpack ground game with 25 yards on six carries as NC State totaled only 39 yards on the ground.
After Tennessee took a 7-0 lead, Kanoah Vinesett got the Pack on the board with a 24-yard field goal.
With the Pack down a touchdown and driving down the field in the red zone late in the second quarter, a Tennessee interception was returned the other way for a score to put the Volunteers up 17-3.
The Wolfpack defense got on the board in the third qaurter as Davin Vann got to the quarterback, tipping the ball into the air, where it was grabbed by Aydan white and taken back 87 yards for a touchdown. The pick-six was the sixth-longest in Wolfpack history.
Linebacker Sean Brown led the defense with 11 total tackles and two tackles for loss.
The Volunteers now lead the overall series 3-2. This was the first time the Wolfpack had given 50 points in a game since giving up 55 points to Clemson in 2019.

NC State will return home to Carter-Finley Stadium on September 14 to take on Louisiana Tech at noon.
