
Wolfpack Dominates VCU in 5-0 Road Victory

RICHMOND, Va. – Three goals in the opening half powered the NC State women's soccer team to a dominant 5-0 victory at VCU on Sunday afternoon at Sports Backers Stadium.
NC State (1-2-1) scored three times in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Mana Nakata opened the scoring with a long-range effort from outside the 18-yard box, giving the Wolfpack an early 1-0 lead in the 5th minute. Abi Hugh then doubled the Pack's advantage when she pounced on a loose ball off an NC State corner kick for a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute. Taylor Chism fired in the original shot before Hugh gathered the rebound and scored her first goal as a member of the Pack.
Annika Wohner concluded the Pack's first-half scoring when she netted a goal with just 11 seconds remaining. Jade Bordeleau intercepted a pass in the Pack's attacking third before threading in a ball to Wohner for a 3-0 NC State lead.
NC State scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to make it 5-0. Hannah Jibril notched her first goal of the season to make it 4-0 in the 49th minute before Wohner secured first-career brace with her second goal of the day in the 53rd minute.
The Wolfpack outshot VCU 18-10 with an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal. NC State limited the Rams to just two shots in the first half. Five Wolfpack players recorded multiple shots with Wohner leading the way with four.
Olivia Pratapas preserved the shutout with eight saves. Her eight saves tied a career-high.
The Wolfpack's 5-0 win marked its first time scoring five goals in a single match since another 5-0 victory on Sept. 9, 2021, against Oklahoma. Wohner also becomes the first Wolfpack player with a multi-goal effort since Lulu Guttenberger scored twice against Miami on Oct. 15, 2022.
Sunday's win marks NC State's 399th win in program history. Head coach Tim Santoro also moves into a tie for second place with Laura Kerrigan for the most wins by an NC State women's soccer head coach (87).
