
NC State Falls 8-1 to No. 17 Duke in ACC Tournament

#12 Wolfpack Eliminated from ACC Tournament Following Thursday's Setback
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 12 NC State baseball team dropped its second matchup of pool play 8-1 to No. 17 Duke on Thursday night at Truist Field. With the loss, sixth-seeded Duke wins Pool C and advances to the semifinals.
NC State (33-20) and Duke (37-18) cruised through the first four innings, allowing just one hit combined to each post four scoreless frames. The Blue Devils broke the scoreless deadlock with six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Chase Krewson, Zac Morris and AJ Gracia homered in the inning to build Duke's six-run lead.
The Blue Devils extended their lead to 8-0 behind Devin Obee's two-run homer in the sixth.
Wolfpack starting pitcher Sam Highfill (5-2) carried a no-hitter into the fifth, finishing his outing with four strikeouts. Duke left-hander Andrew Healy (3-1) notched the win after tossing five scoreless frames with four strikeouts and no walks.
Alec Makarewicz extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the bottom of the seventh. Makarewicz's 20-game hitting streak is the longest for NC State this season. He added another single in the top of the ninth to finish with a multi-hit performance.
Jacob Cozart put NC State on the board with two outs in the ninth, roping a two-out RBI double into the right-center gap. Cozart's double scored Makarewicz all the way from first base before Tim Noone retired the final Wolfpack batter of the night to seal the win.

The NCAA Selection Show is set for Monday, May 27, at noon. The show will be televised on ESPN2 and ESPNU. NCAA Regional hosts will also be announced sometime on Sunday afternoon.
