NC State Registers Best Beam Score of 2024
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – No. 21 NC State gymnastics fired a season-high beam score in its quad meet at Temple on Thursday as the Wolfpack left McGonigle Hall with a second-place finish and a team total of 196.750.
Maryland won the quad meet with a 197.050, while the Owls fired a 195.450 and Penn ended the afternoon in fourth place at 194.275.
The Pack won three of the contest's four events, highlighted by a pair of new career highs from Ashley Knight and Alexis Ortega. Knight tabbed a personal-best 9.925 on vault during NC State's third rotation en route to her third individual title of the season, while a 9.950 from Ortega landed the graduate her fourth event crown of the year. Additionally, Emily Shepard picked up a share of the floor title with a 9.900, splitting the first-place decision with Maryland's Alexa Rothenbuescher.
Beam (49.425)
The Pack's afternoon started on beam with NC State firing its best score of the season in the event and its fifth-best total in program history. Despite starting the rotation with a fall, the Wolfpack worked back to a 49.425 which is the Pack's best beam score since 2022.
Shepard led the way for the Wolfpack at 9.925, while Katie Harper matched her season-high beam score with a 9.925. Harper's 9.875 was matched by Ortega, while Chloe Negrete anchored at 9.900 to count her fourth score of 9.9+ on beam this season.
A 9.850 from beam specialist Macy Jennings rounded out an impressive scoring effort from the Pack, with Jennings' score marking her highest since Feb. 11 and tying her second-highest total of the season.
Floor (49.150)
Shepard took home the floor crown in the Pack's second rotation, tabbing a 9.900 to register the sixth score of 9.9+ on floor in her last seven meets. Negrete followed Shepard with a 9.850 from the anchor position, while a trio of 9.800 totals from Krista Zultevicz, Ashley Knight and floor specialist Katya Edwards contributed to the Pack's second-rotation total.
Vault (48.950)
A new personal best of 9.925 from Knight resulted in an individual title for the freshman, while Meg Adler finished just off the podium with a new career high of her own at 9.825.
Ortega posted her second-best vault score of the season at 9.800, while a pair of 9.700 marks from Negrete and Zultevicz completed the Pack's list of five counted scores.
Bars (49.225)
NC State's day came to a close on bars, with a career-best 9.950 from Ortega landing her in first place. Ortega was joined on the beam by Harper, who recorded the third 9.9+ score of her freshman campaign at 9.900 resulting in a two-way tie for third place with Temple's Sarah Stallings.
Peyton Childs tabbed her best bars score since Jan. 26 with a 9.825, with Madeline Reid continuing an impressive sophomore campaign with a 9.800.
Leadoff Kailee Adomaites contributed the Pack's final counted score with a 9.750, her second-highest mark of 2024.
