
Wolfpack Falls 4-1 to Michigan in Semifinals of ITA Indoor Championships

SEATTLE, Wa. – The Wolfpack's run in the ITA Indoor Championships comes to an end in the semifinals as they fall to Michigan 4-1 Sunday afternoon from the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle. This was the first loss of the season for NC State.
These two teams will meet in again in 11 days as the Wolfpack will travel to Ann Arbor to take on the Wolverines for a rematch on Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.
The Wolfpack found themselves down 3-0 after dropping the doubles points and falling on courts two and six. But NC State looked to battle back as senior and 10th ranked Amelia Rajecki secured the first point for the Wolfpack with a 7-5, 6-4 win over ninth-ranked Kari Miller.
All three remaining courts went to three sets after Maddy Zampardo won her second set after falling in her first. The freshman gave No. 57 Lilly Jones all she could handle in the third set but ultimately would fall 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 to clinch the victory for the Wolverines.
Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova won their first sets but fell in the second. No. 33 Abrams was in a 6-6 tiebreak with the score 5-5 before it went unfinished. No. 39 Zyryanova found herself up 6-5 against Jaedan Brown, but in a 6-6 tiebreak and up 6-4, Brown scored four straight points to force a third set.
In doubles play, Rajecki and Zampardo had won 6-3, while Broadfoot and Rencheli dropped their match 6-2. The doubles point came down to court one with Abrams and Zyryanova up 4-3 but could not finish as the Wolverines rattled off three straight games to take the match 6-4 and give Michigan the advantage.
