Inscoe’s Career Day Pushes Pack Past St. John’s

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Sophomore right-handed pitcher Madison Inscoe threw a career high nine strikeouts in the NC State softball team's win over St. John's Sunday afternoon in the final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

How it Happened
- The Wolfpack had hot barrels from the start. After back-to-back walks, Taylor Ensley stepped into the batter's box with two outs. She drilled a three-run homer to left centerfield to give the Pack a 3-0 lead.
- The Red Storm recorded a triple in the bottom half of the first that allowed them to later score, minimizing the deficit to two. St. John's would remain scoreless through the rest of the outing.
- With two outs in the third inning, Tori Ensley hit a single and advanced to second on after an overthrown ball by St. John's. The base hit allowed one to score, putting the Pack up 4-1.
- Nadia Sykes was the designated player for the Wolfpack in game five. She singled up the middle in the top of the fifth before freshman Katie Raper recorded her first collegiate hit. She singled up the middle while pinch hitting for MaKayla Marbury, who would later reenter the game. With Taylor Ensley back at the plate, Sykes would steal both third and home plate to increase the lead once again. Ensley was walked but eventually stole a base of her own. Senior Kaylee Lambrecht grounded out to the shortstop, but Marbury and Ensley scored, making it 7-1.
- The Pack scored another two runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
- Madison Inscoe struck out six consecutive batters between the third and fifth innings. She finished the afternoon with nine total strikeouts in 7 innings pitched.
- Amanda Hasler led the Wolfpack with two hits while Nadia Sykes led with three stolen bases. Sykes also led the way in runs with two and Taylor Ensley totaled three RBI's.
- The Pack was walked a total of 10 times and saw three different Red Storm pitchers in the outing.
Next Up
The Wolfpack will return to Raleigh to host The Marucci Classic with games starting on Friday Feb. 16.
