
Gymnastics Knocks off UNC to Open ACC Slate

NC State Fires Season-High Score of 196.225
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – NC State gymnastics posted its best score of the season as it opened its ACC slate on Friday night, firing a 196.225 in a 196.225-195.325 dual-meet victory over in-state foe North Carolina.
The night was highlighted by Chloe Negrete taking the individual event titles on vault and floor, while freshman Katie Harper took the individual crown on bars. Alexis Ortega and Macy Jennings each shared individual medalist honors on beam, alongside UNC's Gwen Fink as well.
The evening also saw Elle Hadrick make her program debut with the Wolfpack, registering a 9.825 on floor and a 9.750 on bars.
Bars (48.950)
The Pack saw a pair of freshman shine on bars, with Harper taking the individual title in the event and Hadrick making her career debut in red and white. Harper erased her previous season-high score of 9.800 with a 9.850 mark, followed by a 9.825 from Emily Shepard and a 9.800 from Alexis Ortega. Hadrick posted a 9.750 in her first collegiate routine while the Wolfpack's scoring effort on the rails was completed by a 9.725 from Peyton Childs.
Vault (48.975)
After securing an early lead over the Tar Heels on bars, the Pack continued its momentum into its second rotation on vault. NC State's best score came from Negrete at the anchor position, with her 9.875 leading to a first-place finish in the event for the graduate. Meg Adler's 9.800 from the leadoff spot marked the second-highest score for the Wolfpack, while a pair of 9.775 tallies from Ortega and Shepard aided the vault total. The Pack's five-score final was rounded out by a 9.750 from Krista Zultevicz, her best score on vault so far this season.
Floor (49.200)
NC State's highest total of the evening came on floor, firing its best score of the season on the event. Floor marked one of three events where the Pack registered a new season-high team total, with vault and beam each reaching a new best as well. Negrete's total of 9.925 marked her best score of the season on floor en route to claiming a first-place individual finish in the event. The Pack fired four scores of 9.825+, with Hadrick and Zultevicz each totaling a 9.825 and Shepard adding a 9.875. An impressive third rotation was wrapped up with a 9.750 from Ashley Knight.
Beam (49.100)
The Wolfpack closed out its evening on beam while adding a quartet of 9.800+ totals as well. Jennings, a beam specialist, and Ortega each led the way for the Pack with a 9.850 while Adler posted a 9.825. A 9.800 from Negrete in the anchor position alongside a 9.775 from Shepard sealed the win for the Wolfpack, with the Pack improving its beam score from its season opener by 1.325.
