Pack will compete against BYU, Cal, and Michigan State
RALEIGH – NC State gymnastics returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 13 as the Wolfpack are slated to take part in the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad in West Valley City, Utah, alongside BYU, Cal, and Michigan State.
The Pack makes the trip to Utah after having opened the season in a dual meet at Georgia last Saturday, firing a season-opening score of 194.225 highlighted by a 49.025 on vault that currently has NC State tied for 20th in the nation in the event.
The Pack saw seven of its 24 routines against Georgia come from a trio of freshmen, including Maddie Hall competing all-around in her first meet as a member of the Wolfpack. Alexis Ortega and Emily Shepard each competed in all four events for NC State as well, while Chloe Negrete's three-event effort on vault, beam, and floor was enough to earn her the honor of being named the ACC's inaugural Specialist of the Week.
BYU, Cal, and Michigan State each competed in the Mean Girls Super 16 to open the season in Las Vegas, Nevada, though none competed against each other. Currently ranked in a tie for sixth-place nationally with Denver and Minnesota, Cal posted a 196.850 in its 2024 debut in a quad meet against Alabama, Auburn, and UCLA. Michigan State, who the Wolfpack hosted in Reynolds Coliseum in its 2023 home opener, fired a 196.300 against Kentucky, Michigan, and Oklahoma, while BYU tabbed a 195.900 against Minnesota, Oregon State, and Southern Utah.
Saturday's contest will mark the first of five meets for NC State broadcast on the ACC Network, the most nationally-broadcast meets of any team in the league.
The first rotation of Saturday's quad is slated for 9 p.m., and will mark the second of a three-meet road skid to start the season for the Wolfpack.
