Pack Falls to No. 13 Georgia Tech After Intense Battle

ATLANTA – The NC State volleyball team fell to No. 13 Georgia Tech 3-1 Sunday afternoon, ending the program's 10-game win streak.
The Pack jumped out to a 4-1 lead to start off the match, but the Yellow Jackets tied things up forcing a close battle moving forward. Georgia Tech went on to take a 20-16 lead, but the Pack wasn't backing down. After Tech hit set point with the Wolfpack trailing 24-18, a wild rally allowed the Pack to keep things going. NC State went on a 5-0 run to minimize the Yellow Jackets lead to one, but Georgia Tech ended the run and took set one, 25-23.
The Yellow Jackets took a 10-4 lead over the Wolfpack to open set two, but a 6-2 run by the Pack minimized the deficit to one. The two teams were forced to replay the Yellow Jacket's 17th point due to the ref blowing the whistle when sophomore Sydney Daniels pancaked to keep the ball in play. Tech went on to win the set despite a late rally by the Pack.
The two teams continued to battle in set three. NC State started with a 3-0 lead before Tech scored three straight points of their own. Tech went on to take a three-point lead of its own, but the Pack rallied back to tie things eight all. A block by Jada Allen and Martyna Leoniak gave the Pack its first lead since the beginning of the set. After NC State scored back-to-back points, Georgia Tech called a timeout. The Pack maintained the lead until Tech tied things up 18-all. Tech took the next point, but kills by Leoniak and Amanda Rice put NC State back in front. A kill by Rice ended the third set with the Wolfpack on top, 25-23.
The battle continued in set four with the Pack starting off on top. Tech went on a 3-0 run to take an 8-5 lead, forcing head coach Luka Slabe to take his first timeout of the set. Georgia Tech took a timeout of their own after the Pack tied things 14 all. The set continued to be intense but Georgia Tech came out on top, 25-21.
Leoniak led the way with 17 kills, Rice added 15, and Brizard finished with 11. Kristen McDaniel led the setters with 25 assists, while Naomi Cabello added 23. Libero Skye Stokes added 17 digs and Allen recorded three blocks to lead the Pack defensively. Allen also recorded three service aces throughout the match.
The Wolfpack returns to Raleigh to host Notre Dame on Friday Sept. 30 at 1pm EST. The match will be streamed on ACCNX.
