RALEIGH - The NC State women's cross country ranks first in the USTFCCCA National Preseason Coaches' Poll and the ACC Preseason Cross Country rankings, the league offices announced this week.
After holding the number one national ranking for the entire 2022 campaign and winning a second straight NCAA title, it is no surprise the NC State women's cross country team is ranked number one in both the country and the ACC heading into the 2023 season. The women's program is looking to collect its third straight National Championship, seventh straight NCAA East Regional Championship, and an eighth straight ACC Championship as it begins the season on Friday, September 1 at the Elon Opener.
The Pack will be led by defending individual NCAA Cross Country Champion Katelyn Tuohy, who staged a late-race comeback at the 2022 NCAA Championships to finish first and help NC State capture its second straight title. As a result of her performance, Tuohy was honored as the USTFCCCA National Women's Athlete of the Year, USTFCCCA Southeast Region Female Athlete of the Year, USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete of the Year, ACC Women's Runner of the Year, ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year, and the winner of the Honda Award.
Additionally, the Wolfpack was named the USTFCCCA National Scholar Team of the Year and head coach Laurie Henes was tabbed as the USTFCCCA National Women's Coach of the Year, USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women's Coach of the Year, and ACC Women's Coach of the Year.
After finishing the year ranked number 11 nationally in 2022, the men's cross country program also cracked into the 2023 preseason rankings, sitting at number 21 in the country and third in the southeast region. The squad also ranks sixth in the ACC heading into the year.
