Fritton Has Earned Freshman All-America Honors from Three Publications
RALEIGH – Wolfpack freshman pitcher Dominic Fritton earned his third Freshman All-American honor on Friday after D1Baseball tabbed Fritton a First Team Freshman All-American selection.
Fritton, who earned Freshman All-America honors from Perfect Game and the NCBWA earlier in June, becomes the first NC State freshman pitcher since Brian Brown in 2015 to earn multiple Freshman All-America accolades.
Fritton, who earned ACC All-Freshman Team honors in May, had a stellar first season with the Wolfpack. He made 17 total pitching appearances in his first season in Raleigh with nine starts and eight relief appearances, ranking third on the roster with 62.2 innings pitched and 75 strikeouts.
Fritton ranked first among all NC State starting pitchers with a 3.59 ERA, earning his first-career victory after tossing 6.1 innings against Belmont. The left-hander allowed just one run and struck out six batters without allowing a walk in his second collegiate start.
The freshman pitcher also shined in ACC play, pitching 4.1 scoreless frames with seven strikeouts in his ACC debut at Miami on March 12. He led all NC State pitchers with 56 strikeouts and two saves in league action this past season.
As a reliever, Fritton tied for the team lead with three saves despite only making eight relief appearances. He also led all Wolfpack pitchers (minimum 6 IP) by limiting opposing batters to just a .211 batting average against him.
The left-hander allowed two earned runs or fewer in 13 of his 16 appearances, including two scoreless starts and three scoreless bullpen outings.
